Mobile grading scale

Clear condition. Fewer surprises.

Every grade combines cosmetic criteria with the condition details provided for a specific inventory lot.

This guide reflects CTNY’s standard mobile-device scale. Final listings, testing results, and lot notes should always be reviewed before purchase.

A

Grade A

Stock, Like New

The handset itself is new. It may come in a box that was opened for testing, but the box remains in excellent, like-new condition.

  • Like-new appearance
  • No dents
  • No scuffs
  • No scratches on the screen or housing, including the front and sides
AB

Grade AB

Stock, Very Good

A used device in excellent cosmetic condition, with no to very light signs of wear.

  • No dents or cracks anywhere on the phone
  • Very light scratches or scuffing on the rear housing
  • Light scuffing around the edges or LCD bezel is acceptable when no other scrapes are present
  • No excessive dirt or signs of water damage inside the phone or rear housing
  • Five or fewer light screen scratches that do not affect visibility
B

Grade B

Stock, Good

A used device in good cosmetic condition. Light scratches or marks are usually due to normal wear and tear.

  • No more than two dents or damaged corners
  • Light-to-medium scuffing on the sides or rear is acceptable
  • No more than ten cosmetic defects, with no cracks or deep screen scratches
  • Up to ten light or small screen scratches, visible with the screen on or off
C

Grade C

Stock, Rough

A device in fair cosmetic condition, with marks or distinctive scratches from use that do not affect functionality.

  • Up to one hairline crack on the housing
  • Deep scratches may be present on the primary display
  • Up to fifteen light or small screen scratches that may impede visibility
  • No cracks on the front housing; scratches and dents are acceptable
  • Heavy scuffing or scratching may be present on the rear housing
  • Two or more heavily dented or damaged corners
D

Grade D

Stock, Heavy Damage

A device with heavy wear and tear or cracked glass. Functionality and cosmetic condition can vary substantially.

  • Cracked or badly damaged glass may be present
  • Heavy dents, scuffs, scratches, or housing damage
  • Suitable for buyers who can repair, refurbish, or recover parts
S

Grade S

Salvage

A non-working or incomplete device intended for parts recovery, repair, or responsible recycling.

  • May not power on or pass functional testing
  • May be incomplete or have significant physical damage
  • Condition details are confirmed with the inventory listing
